RLs are a common feline tooth defect that have been called cavities, neck lesions, external or internal root resorptions, and cervical line erosions. RLs are usually found on the outside of the tooth where the gum meets the dental surface but they can start both above and below the gumline. Although a disease of older cats, they can occur at any age and often times more will develop over time.

Everything that happens to you at the dentist will happen when your cat comes to the veterinary clinic; however, these steps are performed while you cat is nicely snoozing away. The steps of a dental cleaning include scaling off sticky tartar, polishing the enamel, applying protective fluoride, and a detailed examination of the mouth and charting of all findings. If a detailed analysis of a sensitive area is required, we are capable of taking dental x-rays and performing the necessary extractions to remove broken, abscessed, or painful teeth. The end result: pearly white teeth. If extractions are required your cat will still be able to eat normally (even hard crunchies) as healthy, happy gums are better than sore painful teeth! After any anesthetic/dental procedure we will follow-up with you in terms of how your cat is doing. After dental work, most owners report positive changes in their cat’s behaviour, including acting livelier and being more social.
