Dr. Elizabeth RuelleOne of the most commonly asked questions is why do I see only cats? To that I generally reply - why not only cats!
I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. In my childhood dreams, I wanted to be a horse doctor. Having always grown up with cats (not horses), they have been an integral part of my life. As the path of life is always interesting, I "fell" into cat medicine as a new graduate and never left. I am truly blessed to be able to have cats in my life - not just at home but where I work as well. My clinic motto is "for the love of cats and cat medicine". That sums up everything I try to achieve every day at work: balancing the importance of providing cats with the medical care that they need (we know they are not small dogs and should never be treated as such) while striving to ensure that my care plans are not arduous to either owner or patient. At the heart of all of my medical decisions and recommendations is "what would I do if this was my cat in these circumstances". |
History |
A native Calgarian, Dr. Liz’s academic career began with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Calgary. Combining her love of travel and her determination to be a veterinarian, Dr. Liz studied at the University of Veterinary Medicine, in Kosice, Slovakia. She graduated, with great distinction, in 2005 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
After returning home to Calgary, Dr. Liz spent three years practicing at one of Calgary’s few cat-only clinics. Her desire to face new challenges, while continuing her love for feline medicine, has led Dr. Liz to take the helm of Wild Rose Cat Clinic. In December 2012 Dr. Liz succeeded in her pursuit of board certification in feline medicine - more information about this challenging process can be found below! In addition to advancing her knowledge in feline medicine, Dr. Liz is proud to be a leader among Calgary's veterinary community. She has served on the Calgary Academy of Veterinary Medicine (CAVM) and on the City's Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO) committee as a veterinary voice for Calgary's cat population. When not with her purrfect patients, Dr. Liz can be found with her cats Utinni and Zeb, her husband Jeff or her two wonderful children (aka. cat doctors in training!). |
