No matter how young or old or how elective a procedure is, the concept of anesthesia and surgery is frightening and not without risk. We strive to offer the best and most modern anesthesia techniques and monitoring to ensure that even our more elderly kitties do well.
No anesthetic or surgery is done without first consulting with one of our doctors and your cat undergoing a physical examination. This ensures that you know what is going to happen and to have any concerns addressed. On the morning of an anesthetic procedure, your cat will have a pre-anesthetic exam to ensure there have been no significant changes in their health status. Pre-medications are given to help prevent surgical pain and to help make the anesthesia easier on them.
Our patients are maintained on gas (inhalant) anesthesia so as to keep them at the optimum level for the surgery or procedure they are having done. In some cases, local anesthetics will be used so that you kitty requires less total general anesthesia. From start to finish, one of our Animal Health Technologists (vet nurses) are there to monitor your cat during their anesthetic and to help ensure an uneventful recovery.
We have a full surgical suite available where everything from routine, elective surgeries (such as spaying and neutering) to more invasive procedures (such as exploratory surgery) can be done. For more specialist surgeries, referral services are available.
